  кремлевские тролли напали на NYT

"Putin is right we are wrong. I said it all along that we should have left Saddam in place. If we had we wouldn't even be here now. Building democracy is a farce and loaded with hubris. It gets us nowhere. You ever notice it is the little guys we go after on this issue, never the ones that matter like China or Russia. Trying to force the neocon vision on these countries will never work. The mass of their people just aren't educated enough, and are guided tribalism and religious dogma. Democracy does not fit that mold.

I hate to say it, but Putin is right about Syria. We've seen this movie before: brutal dictator removed by the West, only to create a power vacuum that will inevitably be filled by Islamic extremists.

Of course Assad is not a nice man. But the American government is blinded by ideology. What is more important: ending the current chaos and atrocities, or making a political point about the value of Western-style government and human rights? Be pragmatic. The people of Syria need the violence and bloodshed to end now. Worry about dealing with Assad through political and diplomatic channels after we've stopped the killing going on each and every day in Syria.

The ideal of a democratic, pro-Western Syria is a fantasy, just like the so-called moderate rebels were a fantasy. Reality does not bend to match our ideological desires. Should theoretical elections be held in Syria, Islamists would likely win; is that really what we want? "
